Today's "Puma AG" was founded in 1948 by Rudolf Dassler, and was originally called "Puma Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler" (engl. Puma Shoe Factory Rudolf Dassler).

Besides Nike and Adidas, Puma is one of the biggest producer of sports goods.

Some of you might have a familiar ring with the name Dassler. Adolf Dassler, Rudolf's brother, is the owner of Adidas. The history of the Adidas logo will be published on this website soon.

Until 1948, Rudolf and Adolf Dassler lead a common business. Due to accumulating differences of opinion, Rudolf Dassler founded Puma. The company's name was intended to be "Ruda", which is formed by the first two letters of his first- and last name, Rudolf Dassler.

However, Puma sounded similar and better, and is generally associated with dynamics, he chose the name to be Puma. The Puma logo was designed by the German cartoonist Lutz Backes (BUBEC) in 1967.

Today, the logo is almost always used with the writing "Puma". The puma itself is placed above the writing, on the right side.
