In earlier days, peers, kings and sovereigns highlighted their domain using emblems. Emblem originally means "figure of heraldry". Emblems were also used to signalize group membership.
Nowadays, emblems are used by clubs and societies and different organisations. Amongst others, you can find them on the tracksuits of sports clubs and on flags.
