The Ford company wasfounded on June 16 1903 in Detroit by Henry Ford. By now, it has grown to be the third-biggest car manufacturer after General Motors and Toyota.

The Ford logo wasn't subject to many modifications. The oval logo with a blue background and the text "Ford" in its center, as we know it, is more than 100 years old. The logo was designed by Childe Harold Wills in 1903, when the "Ford Motor Company" was founded. At that time, he was a factory engineer, but he had previously worked as an advertisement graphic artist.

Up until then, Wills earned his money by designing business cards. One of the fonts used for business cards was also used for the writing of the Opel logo.

In 1927 the logo was first placed on the cooler of the Ford Model A. The logo was forbidden by the national socialists in 1937, so it was temporarily replaced by a logo that stylized the Cologne Cathedral.

When the war was over, the Cathedral Emblem was itself replaced by the three crowns of Cologne's City Emblem.

Since 1975 the original, oval logo is back in use in Central Europe, and the consistent identity of the car manufaturer is regained.

There have been minor modifications of the logo since then, such as the threedimensional depiction. Other than that, the logo has remained almst exactly the same.
