Typography is often spoken or heard about, but could you describe exactly what the term "typography" stands for?

This is the definition of typography:

Typography provides rules for the design of texts. It contains directives for functional and aesthetic aspects.

Furthermore, it is classified into microtypography and macrotypography.

Microtypography describes the rules for the design of fonts, while macrotypography is about the design or arrangement of blocks of text on a page.

From the point of view of new media, there's also a difference between texts that are prepared for the print sector and the web sector. More information: See chapter "Typo in the Web".
