Intertitles are used to subdivide paragraphs into individual thematic blocks. If you use intertitles, you give your readers the opportunity to skip certain text passages.

Intertitles are mostly used in newspapers, magazines, periodicals, dissertations and books.

Intertitles may be the same font size as the standard text, but they don't have to be. They may also be 1-2 points larger. Usually, in order to allow for easy perceptibility, their font-weight is stronger than standard text.

So long as a page doesn't contain too many intertitles, they may be highlighted using additional decorating elements (e.g. a line above and below). If there are more than three decorated titles on a page, it usually looks overloaded and unaesthetic.
