Most readers are probably familiar with the PDF format ("Portable Document Format"). This format was devised by Adobe Systems.

PDF has come to be a very common file type, for various reasons. First of all, PDF can be seen as an Upgrade of PostScript, with the clear advantage of being able to view and print files using Acrobat. Therefore, it is easier to spot mistakes and errors.

Another reason for its popularity is the small file size of PDF files at high quality. Because of this quality, many publications are published as PDFs on the internet.

PDF is supported by most common graphics programs - most can import and export PDF files.

The direct export from these programs usually works, but you're on the safe side if you use Acrobat Distiller, which converts the generated PS file into a PDF file.
