The stylized illustration of a particular term
A pictogram is a graphical symbol. It is supposed to evoke an association to a particular term. The design of a pictogram should be unambiguous and simple.
Often, highly stylized illustrations are used to make the meaning of the pictogram obvious and easily learnable.
Becase of this ease of learning, pictograms do not require additional descriptive text. Thus, pictograms are independent of languages and are correctly interpreted and understood in many cultures.
