Additive Colours

Adding red to green yields yellow

Additive colours are produced by light itself. Without a source of light, no colour can form.

"Additive" means that the adding of primary colours results in lighter hues. The addition of all three primary colours of the RGB model results in white.

This is why it is called additive mixture of colours.
